You know what I really hate? When people ask me what kind of music I like. I usually respond with two bands: The Smashing Pumkins and the Fugees. Now, the Pumkins usually get that vague response along the lines of, "they're swell," but after I say the Fugees, you know what their response is? "You know Lee, that lead singer, Lauryn, she's a racist. She said she would like rather have her baby like die than like have a white person like buy her album, blah blah like blah blah blah."(Loosely translated: "I' m a fucking moron") Well guess what, You're wrong, that's right, you're wrong.
Wait, you didn't hear me? Let me say it one more time, just so were're all clear. YOU'RE WRONG!!!! Accent on the "WRONG."
Now that we're clear, let me set the record straight. First, the Fugees were blatantly misquoted in that interview, and since then, the misconception has somehow stuck. Praz, one of the group's members, also the cousin of the more famous Wyclef, cleared the band's name with this statement: "Of course were're not racist. I mean, everyone we work for is white. If we were racist, we'd never get anywhere. People label us as these "black power" extremists, but were're not, we're just for equality."
The second argument against the Fugees is that they cause rioting. This critism originated when a riot broke out at one of the Fugees' free concerts held in Queens, "HoodShock." This is what really happened: The concert was going fine until the last five minutes, when some sociopathic idiot fired a blank into the air. This caused a stampede. Coincidentally, the man who fired the gun was a white former convict on parole for assaulting a judge. Now that both rumors have been dispelled, I think I'm going to go listen to some Smashing Pumkins.
